A clean sweep

They went in as top seeds after a successful Canterbury championship and, with a clean sweep in the recent South Island Tennis Teams Championship, the College tennis team is now number one in the South Island.
The team – captain and Year 13 student Dylan Heap, Year 12 student Will Schneideman and Year 11 students Nick Schneideman, Jenner Johnson and Liam Adams – had five ties against St Bede’s College, Otago Boys’ High School, Timaru Boys’ High School, Marlborough College and Christchurch Boys’ High School, each consisting of four individual and two doubles matches. In an amazing feat, they won every match and every set – that is, 60 straight sets – and are now the top qualifying South Island team for the upcoming national tournament.
“It was a pretty awesome experience,” says Dylan. “We’re all really solid players in the College team and all play club tennis as well as for school. It’s good fun.”
The South Island tournament took place in Timaru from Friday 2–Sunday 4 March.
