Powering in the pool
23 Feb 2021
Covid restrictions impacted on the College swimming sports on Monday 15 February
with some events unable to be held, but the absence of enthusiastic House support didn’t scupper the determination of the swimmers.
If the atmosphere was a little subdued (Level 2 restrictions having been imposed the night before), with many fewer viewers, the competitors engaged in the challenge of racing with gusto, fitness and style.
Six new records were set. In the senior championship James Currie set new records in the 200m individual medley, 100m reaststroke, and 400m freestyle – breaking records he set last year – and Bradley Shearer broke the 100m freestyle record. James was 1st in the senior championship overall, with Bradley Shearer 2nd and Joshua Ford 3rd.
In the Intermediate Championship Conor McCullough broke both the 200m individual medley and 200m freestyle records. There was excellent close racing in the grade, Jordan Astley winning the Open 100m butterfly with Daniel Bridgman in 2nd place.
