13 Oct 2020

Clay target shooting is an increasingly popular sport at College with teams competing successfully during the school holidays in both the South Island and NZ Secondary Schools’ Clay Target Shooting Championships and the North Island Championships.

Ten College shooters competed in the SI and NZSSCTS, held from 26–28 September at six different locations throughout New Zealand. A total of 324 secondary school students from 73 schools were involved, and after three days of competition in a variety of disciplines and tough weather conditions, the College shooters had some notable performances.

Henry Lassen was 1st in the Junior South Island single rise and 3rd in the South Island overall, and 1st in the Junior NZ single rise. George Nehoff was selected for the South Island skeet team of three who competed against the North Island after the initial South and NZ individual championships. Connor Graham was selected in the Canterbury regional five-person team after two days of competition. The Canterbury team won the national title with Connor top scoring for the Canterbury team and achieving the 5th highest score in NZ.

Around 170 competitors competed in the North Island Secondary Championships held on 8 October at the Waikato Clay Target Club, a memorable event for Henry Lassen and Connor Graham who won the NI Secondary School Skeet Team Shield. The College team of Henry, Connor, Harry Trolove, George Helmore and Hugo Helmore impressed their competitors who are now in no doubt about who College is, and its capabilities.
