All hockey players train either at Rangi Ruru turf, Ngā Puna Wai, or Sporting Edge Indoor Centre. Transport will be provided if required.
College hockey teams participate in the local club competitions. Matches are played on Friday after school.

2025
- Christ’s College retained their place in the prestigious Rankin Cup, securing three consecutive wins under pressure.
- Strong Christchurch competition performances, including wins against leading local schools.
- Several players earned Canterbury representative honours, including selection in U18 and development squads.
2024
- The 1st XI finished 5th at the Rankin Cup, with their only loss in the quarter-finals.
- This is the 4th best result in the history of Christ’s College hockey.
- The Colts XI (Division 2) and CC Black XI (Division 3) both secured 3rd place in their respective grades.

Hockey Coaching Staff
Keryn Ambler
Keryn Ambler
Holding a Bachelor of Sport and Recreation Management, majoring in Exercise and Health, and a Graduate Diploma in Teaching and Learning (Secondary) in Physical Education and Health Education, Keryn Ambler also brings a wealth of experience to his new role. As the convenor of cricket and hockey, he also heads coach development at Christ’s College. In his previous position, Keryn was the Christchurch Metro Cricket Association Development Manager, managing youth cricket, including the representative programme, winter training, and secondary school-based cricket. He was also responsible for the management and delivery of coach development, alongside improving resources. Since 2017, Keryn has been the 1st XI head cricket coach and youth hockey coach at Christ’s College.

Matthew Crake is in his seventh year of coaching the 1st XI and brings a wealth of experience to the role. He has coached Canterbury age-group representative teams, various Rangi Ruru Girls’ School teams, and the Harewood Division 1 men’s team for several years. He has also played and coached in France for Stade Français. He currently plays for the Harewood premier team.

Nick is an old boy of Christ's College. A keen hockey player, he played 108 games over five seasons for the Christ's College Hockey 1st XI. Nick is an outstanding sportsman, having represented both the New Zealand U18 Hockey team and the New Zealand U19 Cricket team. He was also selected for the Senior Men's Black Sticks squad in 2023 and 2025, and is currently playing for the Carlton Redcliffs Premier Men’s team.

Llewey is studying at the University of Canterbury and is an old boy of Christ's College. A keen hockey player, he played more than 100 games over four seasons for the Christ's College Hockey 1st XI. Llewey captained the Rankin Cup-winning team in 2017 and has represented Canterbury at all age-group levels. He is currently playing for the Hornby Premier Men’s team.
