As a traditional Anglican school, Christ’s College is proud of its outstanding Chapel Choir. There are currently 100 members in the choir at all age levels.

Chapel Choir

A real working chapel choir has an extensive repertoire. While the main focus is singing at Chapel services, we also sing in other College events and in public performances in the community such as at St. Mary’s Pro Cathedral and at the Big Sing competition.

Students in the Chapel Choir not only get a great musical education but also have the chance to tour overseas. In 2024, this included a tour to Spain, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Italy. The choir has performed in amazing venues – including La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona and St Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City. These tours have also provided fantastic opportunities to explore and experience European culture.

Schola Cantorum

From its home in the Christ's College of Canterbury Chapel, Schola Cantorum is a choral ensemble dedicated to high quality vocal performance of diverse programmes of music. The choir acknowledges its Anglican Chapel choral roots dating back a thousand years and seeks to bring these traditions to others by performing widely in Christchurch | Ōtautahi and further afield. Schola Cantorum is routinely featured in the regular chapel services which make up the Christ's College liturgical calendar.
