Richard Moore, sub-organist at Christ Church, Oxford (UK), and Ian Tindale, pianist and accompanist from the Royal Academy of Music (UK), have shared their remarkable talents with College students.

Their visit to Christchurch – funded by the Canterbury Association OXFORDS Project Endowment – celebrates the 175th anniversary of the association settlement and Christ Church, Oxford’s 500th anniversary.

Richard has accompanied Chapel services and presented lectures at Christ's College on the Catholic masses of William Byrd. Ian has also given a classical voice masterclass for several boys from the piano.

“At all events, our boys brought a high level of professionalism and capability to their engagement with Richard and Ian,” Acting Director Music Hugo Zanker says. “It has been wonderful to see the relationship between our namesake, Christ Church, Oxford, and Christ’s College be extended in this way and our new relationships bode well for future engagements.

“All the masterclass students are taught by experienced vocal coach Shelley Spang, who has guided the boys to a high level.”

College has also welcomed Old Boy Haydn Rawstron, a one-time Organ Scholar at Christ Church, Oxford, to the school.

“Richard will continue his busy programme by presenting at the University of Canterbury, tutoring young organists, and contributing to the cathedral’s musical programme,” Hugo says. “His visit concludes with a performance at the Mountfort Celebration Evensong at 5pm on Sunday 30 March at St Michael and All Angels.”
