Sights set on clay target titles

Kieran Christey has claimed top spot following a perfect score in the single rise event at the Intercollegiate Clay Target Shooting competition at the Timaru Clay Target Club.

Featuring schools from the lower half of the South Island, the competition is open, with junior and senior students facing off in the same sections. In all, 68 competitors from nine schools have lined up on the day.

In the skeet section, team captain Hugo Helmore has finished as runner-up with a score of 23/25 while Sam Nicholl (10/10) has claimed 3rd spot following a shoot-off in the single barrel contest. Hugo, Kieran, and Sam have also joined forces with Harrison Johnstone and Thomas Saunders to finish 3rd in the Points Score team contest with a total of 259/300.

The following boys have scored personal bests (PB):

  • Thomas Saunders – Single Rise PB (19/20), Points Score PB (50/60)
  • Harrison Johnstone – Single Rise PB (18/20), Points Score PB (53/60), Single Barrel PB (8/10)
  • Flynn Price – Single Rise PB (16/20), Points Score PB (50/60)
  • Tom Costley – Points Score PB (51/60)
  • Sam Nicholl – Overall score for the day PB (84/90)
  • Oliver Skene – Points Score PB

College shooters have also had a successful day in the Canterbury secondary schools contest, with Hugo, Kieran, Sam, Harrison, Will Gould and Jack Richardson finishing 2nd in the Points Score team event in the latest round at the Waihora Clay Target Club.

Both Sam (20/20 – single rise senior) and Harry Wilson (21/25 – skeet junior) have also picked up individual wins.
