Shooters on form in first outing
Eleven College boys were on target in the 2021 first round of the Secondary School clay target shooting competition on Sunday 9 May at Ellesmere Clay Target Club.
With nine schools represented in the competition, College fielded two full squads, all the boys grouped together in two teams for the Teams Points Score event.
Top College skeet scores were Harry Trolove (22/25), followed by Charlie Burdon and Tom Macdonald (21/25). Harry’s score was good enough for the 3rd place Skeet Shoot-off, and he was 5th in the final.
Four College shooters scored 20/20 in the Single Rise event – Tom Macdonald, George Helmore, Digby Sheild, and Maurice Gillard – and all went on to the Single Rise shoot off with George coming 2nd and Digby, 4th.
The top College scores in the Points Score event were 58/60 by Hugo Helmore and Charlie Burdon, followed closely by Tom Macdonald and Henry Lassen on 57/60. Hugo’s 56/60 in the B Grade won him the B Grade 2nd place outright.
The Points Score event also doubled as the team competition, with the best four scores in a team being recorded. The College A team’s top four scores came to 228/240, winning it the teams’ competition outright, ahead of St Andrew’s College on 226/240 and Christchurch Boys’ High School on 220/240.
In the Single Barrel event, Henry Lassen, George Helmore and William Drummond scored 10/10 and went on to the A Grade Single Barrel shoot off with William coming 2nd and George 3rd.
