Junior XI on title target at SI football tournament

Christ’s College has won the Junior South Island Invitational Football Tournament in Dunedin, with the Junior XI outplaying Otago Boys’ High School in the grand final, 2–0.

In a Tournament Week highlight, Year 10 student Yul Kwon has been named the Player of the Competition in junior football after consistently bringing stability to the backline and delivering a top performance in every game.

After a slow start to the competition, College upped its game to beat Southland Boys’ High School, 7–0, before downing St Bede’s College in the quarter-finals, 4–2. In the semi-finals, College proved too strong, beating Marlborough Boys’ College, 2–0. In the final, College delivered a convincing win after controlling the entire match.

Junior XI: Sammy O’Connell (captain ), Paulie Arndt, Joseph Chalabi, Zakk Counsell, Daniel Church, Otto Church, Felix Derry, Jai Ferguson, Louis Fogarty, Yul Kwon, Alex Lascelles, Gordon Logan, James Parker, Nisal Pathirana, Sam Pfahlert, and Angus Ward. Warren Dunick (coach), Mike Field (assistant), and Josh Kim (manager).

Meanwhile, the Senior A basketball team fought hard in the South Island Premiership grand final in Dunedin during Tournament Week, leading for much of the game before being beaten by Waimea College in the final quarter, 67–74.

At halftime, College was ahead, 40–37, and tied at 49–49 after the third quarter. With five minutes left on the clock, College was only three points down on Waimea College. However, Waimea powered up to secure the win.
