Heartfelt marathon raises more than $40,000
Old Boy Richard Turpie (15212) has raised nearly $47,000 after undertaking a marathon mission to support the journey to a new heart for five-year-old Chase Porter.
Chase needs a new heart after being diagnosed with Barth Syndrome, a rare genetic condition that has caused his own one to fail. The pair met for the first time on Saturday as Richard completed his 16th lap of Hagley Park, with Chase spurring on the College Old Boy to complete the final stretch of his 100-kilometre run.
The run comprised 18 ‘double park’ laps of 5.6km each, with Richard setting off at 5am and finishing at 6.40pm. He was joined by nearly 200 runners, including College staff and Old Boys who ran laps throughout the day.
