Golden sounds of Southern Jam

College’s Big Band has won Gold at the Southern Jam Youth Jazz Festival in Blenheim.
William Sudell (trombone) has been named the Pure Events Marlborough Best Soloist and Matthew Brett (drums) recognised as the Most Accomplished Rhythm Section Performer. The Jazz Ensemble has picked up a Silver Award, and four students – Oscar Stove (trumpet 1), James Hadden (trumpet 2), William, and Matthew have been named in the Allstars Big Band.
Southern Jam offers young musicians an opportunity to learn from professional performers and appear at a range of venues around Marlborough. A celebration of all things jazz, the festival features big bands, ensembles and combos, along with a competition, and the Gala Concert showcasing participating schools and the All Stars Band.
