College serves up strong volleyball challenge
27 Mar 2024
Christ’s College has fought hard to reach the highly competitive Division 1 at the New Zealand Secondary Schools Volleyball Championships in Palmerston North – the only Canterbury boys team to achieve a top-16 spot.

Initially, College had qualified in the top 32 for the nationals for the first time in recent years. However, the determined team members have capped their championships run with a 3–1 win over Mount Albert Grammar to finish 13th overall at one of the biggest volleyball events ever held in New Zealand.
With only one Year 13 player, it has been a huge achievement by such a young College team featuring captain Jack Kennedy, Flynn Holdem, Kees MacDougall, Hugo Trolove, Yannis Zhang, Hoani Ifopo-Togia, Tawhiri Cate, Josh Shannahan, Lucca Kenny, and James Bandasak.
Reflecting the rapid rise in the popularity of the sport, there has been a 20 per cent increase in the number of school teams taking to the courts at the championships.
