College clay target shooters have been in impressive form at the South Island & New Zealand Secondary School Championships at the Canterbury Clay Target Club in Christchurch.

A record 20-strong College team has featured at the three-day event, with the championships attracting more than 305 leading competitors from about 60 schools.

Hugo Helmore has finished 2nd in the South Island Skeet Championship and – along with Harry Wilson – won the two-person SI team event. Hugo has also finished 3rd in the New Zealand Skeet Championship and again combined with Harry to finish 2nd in the team contest. Hugo has also been named in the North/South Island (three-person) Skeet Team, while Thomas Saunders has been included in the North Canterbury Fish & Game (five-person) Regional Team.

Both Harry and Angus Maxwell have displayed their skills in the juniors, with Harry 3rd in the SI Single Rise Championship and Angus 2nd in the SI Single Barrel Championship.

Meanwhile, Hugo has taken 9th spot in the SI Single Rise Championship and Oliver Skene 8th in the NZ Single Rise.

Thomas has shot the highest College score (185/205) across the two DTL days, followed by Jack Richardson (179/205), Oliver (177/205), Harry (173/205), and George Dale (171/205). For the combined DTL, three team members – Thomas, Harry, and Oliver – have scored 215/255, followed by Hugo and Jack (211/255).

The College team includes Hugo Helmore (captain), Kieran Christey, Thomas Saunders, Will Pearson, Alexander Bedggood, Jack Richardson, Oliver Skene, Harrison Johnstone, George Dale, Will Matheson, Charlie Frost, and juniors Alex Harrison, Harry Wilson, Charlie Luisetti, Oscar Hsing, Angus Maxwell, Bradley Roycroft, Harrison Neylon, Zac Nicholl, and Tyler Christey. Many of these boys have recorded personal bests.
