College duo on song for Choir of the World

The New Zealand Secondary Students’ Choir – featuring Deputy Head Prefect Ollie Jones and Old Boy Jake Cutler – has been named Children’s Choir of the World 2022 at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod in Wales.

The choir has won after submitting a pre-recorded digital entry filmed in one take in Wellington. While all the other competitors from England, Wales and the United States appeared live, the New Zealand performance was played to the judges and audience.

The New Zealand Secondary Students’ Choir won the Senior Children’s Choir category, and was then crowned Children’s Choir of the World following the performance of a waiata, Te Mura O Te Ahi by Christchurch’s Puanaki Whānau.

Music Director Sue Densem says the choir is “over the moon” after winning the title.

“I’m grateful to all the singers and the team to reach this quality of performance during two years of pandemic and disruptions.”
