Bruce Chen has been selected for New Zealand’s International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) team for the second successive year.

Bruce – along with three other team members – will compete on a virtual world stage, with the event hosted by Indonesia from August 7–15.

The highly competitive programmer – and College Head of Academic – has been preparing for the international contest for several years, after being inspired to get involved by older students in Year 9. Bruce has attended national informatics camps – along with a virtual camp in Australia – and been trained by a range of experts, including University of Canterbury professors and past competitors. The IOI is regarded as the most prestigious computer science competition for secondary school students around the world.

Bruce was awarded Scholarship in Technology in Year 11 and Scholarship in Calculus in Year 12.
