Year 9 team blitzes Cantamath

30 Aug 2019

Sharp brains, good teamwork and a lack of errors ensured College’s Year 9 team won the 2019 Cantamath competition this week, beating the province’s best schoolboy mathematicians.

Sean Jang, Lachie Short, Alex McEwan and Joshua Hooker problem-solved across the curriculum for 40mins, their consistent accuracy setting them apart from their highly competitive rivals.

Their win means College has carried off the award five times in the last 36 years.

Head of Mathematics and Statistics Samantha Squire says the boys combined well to work under pressure in a highly charged environment in Horncastle Arena, remaining calm, concentrated and focused and solving all 20 questions.

“Having four of us was a real help. It meant if one person got in difficulty, the others could take it up,” said the team.
