Toe tapping feel-good fun

14 Nov 2019

Schools out for summer and Gabriella Montez (Charlotte McSweeney), Troy Bolton (Ollie Jones) and their friends from East High have all found work at the gorgeous Lava Springs Country Club, owned by the family of Sharpay (Lily Barrowcliffe) and Ryan (Daniel Bridgman) Evans and run by the formidable Mr Fulton (Oscar Gosling) ... and so the story of High School Musical 2 – the latest junior co-production from Rangi Ruru Girls’ School and College – unfolds.

High School Musical 2 – like its prequel (which was a huge Rangi–College hit two years ago) – focuses on the romance between Troy and Gabriella and the machinations of manipulative school diva Sharpay, with strong support from the rest of the cast and plenty of toe tapping song and dance numbers to help drive the story to its feel-good conclusion.

Director Hannah Clarkson says it has been a delight to work with such a talented young team. “We’ve had a wild ride over the past few weeks, but bringing HSM2 to the stage has been such a pleasure. These Year 9 and 10 students have risen to each and every challenge and we are so proud of their talent, growth and ‘reach for the stars’ attitude.”

The cast clearly has a whole lot of fun, the show is energetic, colourful and vibrant, and everyone who has seen it loves it. High School Musical 2 – another exceptional Rangi–College production – was on in the OBT for five shows only from Monday 11–Wednesday 13 November.
