Polished performance, resounding success

With up to 120 musicians together on stage, the performance by a combined orchestra – composed of students from Christ’s College, St Margaret’s College and Rangi Ruru Girls’ School – was a resounding success.

Described as an Orchestral Extravaganza, the evening concert also featured a combined concert band and string orchestra, as well as each school presenting an individual bracket of works.

Christ’s College Director of Music Robert Aburn said collaborating with other schools to present a combined concert in Term 1 gave the young musicians a focal point, which was instrumental in creating a polished performance. “The students were challenged musically, but they also had a lot of fun and presented a top quality performance.”

Mr Aburn said music staff and tutors from all three schools worked well together and the concert was fantastic. He would like to see it become a regular event.

The Orchestral Extravaganza was held in the Christ’s College Assembly Hall on Wednesday 22 March.
