Max is going to Russia

14 May 2019

Year 13 student Max Surveyor will spend a week in Russia in July as part of the New Zealand Economics Olympiad.

The only South Islander and the first College representative to be selected for the five- member team, he will be taking part in the International Economics Olympiad in St Petersburg from Tuesday 23 July–Thursday 1 August. Answering questions on financial literacy, economics and a business case study, and mainly working as a team, the New Zealanders will be competing against 21 countries.

Selection for the New Zealand team was exhaustive. More than 100 students throughout New Zealand tested to qualify for a Saturday camp where a multitude of factors were taken into consideration. The selection committee looked at team selection scores, interview performance, future potential, team composition and diversity across schools.

Teacher in Charge of Economics William Bell says Max’s inclusion in the New Zealand team “is a fantastic achievement for him.”
