Max Darling makes the big league

Wollongong Hawks NBL basketball team will have a new member this season – Old Boy Max Darling.
The 19-year-old is considered one of New Zealand’s elite players representing the country at last year’s Fiba under-19 World Cup, and trialing for the Tall Blacks.
For the last two years he has been based in Croatia, preferring the European route to the top rather than through the American system.
“That experience helped me grow up and mature a lot. I went over when I was 17 and was playing against grown men there. My last year I started every game. It’s been a great learning experience for me.”
Now the high-energy play he is renowned for will be at the disposal of the Hawks who are under new ownership and management for the new season.
“I’ve heard Goorjian is an amazing coach, and I can’t wait to get to work. I’m happy to do whatever they need from me.”
Max has future aspirations of making the NBA and believes this next step with the Hawks in Australia, will help him on that journey.
