House and school spirit were every much in evidence at the Swimming Sports on Monday 10 February, with boys flooding in to support the swimmers, their cheers and applause echoing around the pool. It was hot, humid and, although it looked chaotic, there was method in the madness – with so many events to race through, it all went swimmingly.
Year 10 students Daniel Bridgman and Conor McCullough set new records in the junior championship – Daniel in the 50m butterfly and 100m freestyle, and Conor in the 100m individual medley. In the senior championship, Year 12 student James Currie hardly had time to take a breather between events. In an exceptional day of racing, James set new records in the 200m individual medley, 100m breastroke, and 100m, 200m and 400m freestyle.
Corfe House won both the Sprint Relay Cup and the Medley Relay Cup, but the Julius House junior team set new records in these competitions. Julius House took top honours in the Overall House Championship, comfortably ahead of nearest rivals Somes House and Corfe House.
