Fundraising benefits Aviva and Cricket Live

Cheques totalling more than $19,500 were presented in Chapel today to Aviva family violence services, and the Cricket Live Foundation, which operates in Sri Lanka and India.
College’s significant fundraising efforts – from rugby, drama, House music activities and the Lent Appeal – saw Head Prefect Max Goodwin present a cheque for $12,943.45 to Taase Vaoga Fundraising Manager for Aviva and another for $6,654.15 to Neil Porter, board member of Cricket Live.
The two organisations were selected as recipients earlier in the year.
A very grateful Taase Vaoga said College’s generosity was outstanding and our support over the years was highly valued.
“Your gift is so important to us,” Taase told the boys.
“It allows us to care about people’s ability to be safe, to care about those beyond ourselves, and it focuses us on the fact that we’re a community – we’re all in this together. Our actions impact on others and have consequences, and if we act with generosity and kindness, that has consequences.”
The boys’ creativity had resulted in inspiring gifts of kindness, and importantly it was centred on aroha, she said.
Neil Porter thanked College for the Cricket Live cheque and said one of the first boys on the programme had graduated to become a mentor, and recently been employed full time as a coach.
“The money raised really makes some differences to these young people less fortunate than ourselves.”
Cricket Live is a New Zealand-based non-profit organisation founded by Old Boy Alex Reese and now operating just outside Colombo in Morutuwa, further afield in Siyambalanduwa, and in Mumbai, India.
