Combined Christ's College and St Margaret's College Concert

15 Jun 2017

The annual Combined St Margaret’s/Christ’s College Concert took place in the Charles Luney Auditorium at St Margaret’s College last night in front of an appreciative audience of around 300 people.

The aim of the evening was for students from both schools to air their programmes for upcoming competitions to an audience. Competitions include the Chamber Music Festival which starts this weekend, the Big Sing which takes place next Monday and Tuesday and the Southern Jam Youth Jazz Festival in Blenheim in August.

The Christ’s College Orchestra and Big Band began the lively concert and the Chapel Choir gave their first public performance of the College waiata, Te Whakapono Ki Te Atua. Director of Music Robert Aburn outlined the meaning of the text which gave people a better understanding of the sentiments of the waiata and how they related to College. He says the performance was the platform for the boys to take ownership of the waiata and make it their own.
