Building effective teams
08 Jul 2019
Sam Johnson, Old Boy and entrepreneur, who is best known as the founder of the Student Volunteer Army, shared his findings on building strong viable teams with a lucky group of students on Thursday.
Different personalities add strength to a team; the knack is knowing how best to engage them, he said.
Team building skills were useful in every setting, equally valid for volunteering and service where they can be viewed as steps in relation to career building, he told the boys. This is borne out by his own experiences, starting with the Student Volunteer Army eight years ago. Today he leads a team of seven staff, whose work under its umbrella includes mental health programmes and a high school service awards programme.
