Ash Wednesday and Valentine's Day coincide
19 Feb 2018
For the first time since 1945 Ash Wednesday this year fell on Valentine’s Day.
College Chaplain the Rev Bosco Peters marked the occurrence at the traditional Ash Wednesday Chapel service this week by playing a recording of a song by Alana Levandoski who had composed “When Love Meets Dust” specifically with the coincidence in mind.
The service, which marks the start of Lent, a six-week period of reflection leading up to Easter Sunday, concluded with many boys and staff receiving the traditional cross of ash on their foreheads.
The Chaplain also launched an appeal to raise funds for two causes – locally, for the Aviva Women’s Refuge and internationally for the Cricket Live Foundation, which was founded by Old Boy Alex Reese in Sri Lanka and India.
