Aiming high, running fast

13 Mar 2019

Nine College athletes represented Athletics Canterbury at the recent Jennian Homes New Zealand Track & Field Championships in Christchurch.

It was a mixed bag in terms of weather, but athletes have to be prepared for anything and it is all part of the fun of the sport. Wet weather made competition difficult on Friday, but excellent conditions on Saturday gave many athletes the opportunity to achieve personal bests. Sunday saw really good running conditions, but the steady drizzle made field events more of a challenge. Nevertheless, Year 13 student Edward Hsing showed excellent form in the pole vault, achieving a personal best and coming 2nd in the U20 grade with a jump of 3.90m. And Year 10 student Jasper Moss lets nothing slow him down. He won both the U17 400m Para and 200m Para events, running a personal best time in the 200m.

The event was held at the new Ngā Puna Wai Sports Hub on the weekend of Friday 8–Sunday 10 March.
