A heart of wisdom

The Rev. Dr Peter Carrell was ordained and installed as the 9th Anglican Bishop of Christchurch at services at Christchurch Boys’ High School and in Cathedral Square on Saturday 9 February. Following these historic ceremonies, at a much smaller but – for College – equally significant event, Bishop Peter was inducted as the 10th Warden of Christ’s College in Chapel on Monday 18 February.
An Old Boy, former College parent and member of the Board of Governors, Bishop Peter has had a long association with College and looks forward to continuing his work with the school. After Bishop Peter made his vow to serve as Warden, was given the Christ’s College statutes and confirmed in the role, Board Chair Dr Ian Town said College had already benefited from Bishop Peter’s “wise and well-informed counsel.”
Standing before the altar giving his first address to the school, Bishop Peter said he was very proud to be an Old Boy, and to be the first Old Boy to become Bishop of Christchurch and Warden of College. “I once sat where you are sitting and never did I imagine I’d be standing before you today as Bishop ... My role as Warden is to offer spiritual and temporal advice, to follow Christ’s way, and to assist and encourage all of you to seek to make sure Christ’s College is indeed a college in which Christ is the centre, at the heart of everything we do.”
