50 matches not out

01 Apr 2019

Lachie Harper and Thomas Graham, both Year 13 students in School House, have each celebrated their 50th match playing for the 1st XI and been presented with a specially embroidered commemorative cap.

With their names stitched on the front and the date of their 50th game on the back, the caps are likely to be treasured mementos for Lachie and Thomas.

Both achieved the target during the last few games of the current season, Lachie against St Andrew’s College and Thomas against Christchurch Boys’ High School. All-rounders who are passionate about cricket, the boys are equally happy at the batting crease or bowling. The demanding fitness, training and mentor sessions were more enjoyments than chores, they said.

“We look forward to playing the Saturday game all week.”

1st XI cricket manager Andrew Levenger said they were long-time cricket enthusiasts who were playing in the College’s top team for their third season.

“To play 50 matches at this level is really something. It represents a big commitment on the part of the boys, who have to maintain fitness and form over a very long period.”

Last year the 1st XI captain Kurtis Weeks was the last player to reach the 50 games milestone.

Lachie and Thomas are already looking forward to playing next summer and intend to continue their interest when they leave College.
