A passion for Christchurch

James Stringer (12720) has a clear ambition – to put Christchurch on the map as one of the world’s most liveable cities.

After leaving College at the end of 2004, James had a gap year in Bristol before starting in commercial real estate. He’s since become a member of investment partnership Box 112, a diverse property company responsible for several heritage restoration projects in Christchurch’s CBD. James is also a trustee of the Christchurch Arts Centre, which is currently undergoing one of the largest heritage projects of its kind globally.

“I was looking to get more involved in investment and development of the city after the Christchurch earthquakes. We needed development and key iconic buildings that helped tell our history needed saving,” James says.

“I joined Box 112 about five years ago and to date we’ve completed around 20 projects in the city. We’ve now evolved into a new investment partnership, The South Island Office, which we launched last year. It invests in and grows intergenerational South Island assets and attracts investment from New Zealand and around the world.”
