65 Years On Reunion
Twenty-four of us from the year of 1955 made it to our 65 Years On reunion, down somewhat on previous years, but Covid-19 had restricted travel, especially for our North Island and overseas Old Boys. We all met with partners and wives on Tuesday 20 October at The Christchurch Club where we had 44 seated for dinner and a very convivial night, with many stories told. Next morning Wednesday 21 October at 10.30am we joined the boys in Chapel for Congers – and what a delight to hear the school and choir in full voice. We were all able to join in with the familiar Psalm 8 and “Jerusalem.” Then it was onward for a tour of the school and to join others for the Gentlemen’s Lunch in the Dining Hall where we were addressed by Executive Principal Garth Wynne and Head of Boarding Sam Averill who told us what it is like to be a boarder today. Stephen Gilbert gave an impromptu speech of thanks before we all departed.
Julian Holderness and I were the organisers, but most of the work was done by the Alumni Manager Lizzie Dyer, to whom we owe many thanks. Lizzie not only attended to all the preparation, but was also present on the day to welcome everyone and make sure they all had an enjoyable day.
