College hits winning note at Big Sing
College’s Chapel Choir and Schola Cantorum have taken top honours at the regional Big Sing competition at the Christchurch Town Hall.
The Chapel Choir was recognised for the Best Programme for a Mixed Voice Choir and the Best Performance of a Classical Work while Schola Cantorum received the award for the Best Male Choir at the regional festival.
“The choirs were praised for the diversity and musical contrasts they presented with outstanding engagement,” Director of Music Robert Aburn says.
The groups – involving 88 choristers – presented contrasting programmes of three works each. The regional festival is one of several held across New Zealand. The top 24 choirs will be invited to perform at the national finale in late August in Christchurch.
