College basketballers throw their support behind Aranui school
Christ’s College's Basketball teams have jumped into action, raising funds for new basketball hoops for St James School in Aranui.
Working with the Canterbury Regional Basketball Foundation (CRBF), the members have run a successful fundraiser to help ensure more children benefit from basketball.
College Senior A Head Coach and Master in Charge of Basketball Ben Sheat says the College players are committed to sharing their love of the game with the wider community and recognise the positive role they can play in supporting young players.
“The boys believe in really ‘lifting their game’ to help others and take any opportunity to encourage more young people to play basketball,” he says.
Both CRBF General Manager Caleb Harrison and St James Principal Jo Barlow have welcomed the support of College's Basketball teams.
Senior A Team Captain Hunter Adam believes the teams have done a “brilliant job getting the hoops in place for a school that deserves new equipment to encourage development”.
“It is the first time I have seen basketball teams come together in this way to foster love for the game in our grassroots communities,” he says.
Team member Bruno Vaughan says it was an “awesome vibe to see the school students putting the hoops to great use and having fun”.
“It’s important to give back to the game of basketball and encourage a love of sport at all levels,” he says.
