Christ’s College shares the gift of service
10 Dec 2025
Year 10 boys have dug deep, cleared weeds, built tracks, cleaned up, sorted baby clothes, spent time with youngsters, tidied playgrounds, shovelled mulch, supported children with disabilities and packed food for those in need, giving more than 3000 hours of service in four days.
In their final week of the term, the boys have been giving back to the wider community through a range of service and conservation activities across the region. In conjunction with community organisations such as Volunteering Canterbury, Banks Peninsula Community Trust, Conservation Volunteers, Ranui House, SPCA, Pregnancy Help, and a range of primary schools, the boys have been out helping make a difference for others.
Matt Cortesi, College Director of Character & Leadership, and Service, has praised the boys for putting in hours of service to help others.
“It’s been great to see the boys making the most of these service opportunities and working hard to make a difference in so many people’s lives,” he says. “Equally, it has been so beneficial to our boys in terms of gaining perspective, teamwork and leadership experience. The feedback from all the groups and charities has been incredible. In total, the boys have put in about 3000 hours of service across a range of Canterbury communities.”
