Rob Grigg sails away to claim trophy

26 May 2021

Rob Grigg (6400) and his ‘Imp Zap’ crew took the honours in this year’s annual yacht race off Waikawa, near Picton.

Seven crews enjoyed the fine day, making the most of the nor’west winds gusting up to 25 knots.

Last year’s winner, Zac Ensor (7943) on ‘Paradigm’, had to settle for second this time, with Clive MacFarlane’s ‘Raconteur’ third. Superbly handicapped, the fleet arrived together at Kumutoto Bay for the prize-giving raft-up.

Dave Morgan (8116) deservedly won a prize for seamanship after single-handedly skippering ‘Bandit’ around the course.

Thank you to Tim and Sally Wadworth (8155) for their duties on the start boat.

Broodie Turnbull presents the Jeremy Turnbull Memorial Trophy to Rob Grigg, the winning skipper.
