Every year, a number of College boys are awarded prestigious university scholarships, and more than 90% of leaving students will pursue tertiary education, either in New Zealand or overseas.
The NCEA curriculum is internationally recognised and boys who wish to attend university are well prepared for the challenges. Each year, boys from Christ’s College successfully gain admission to world-ranked universities, including Cambridge, Oxford, Harvard and Stanford.
Process for applying to an American university:
USA universities require SATs or equivalent. SATs can be sat in New Zealand. Every year, a number of Christ’s College students who sit the SATs gain results worthy of entry to USA universities. Students must also register with UCAS, which then contacts the school for testimonial comments and a judgement about the student’s academic ability. This is where the school comments on the student in the context of his year group.
Process for applying to a United Kingdom university:
UK universities contact Christ’s College for comment on the ability and results of the applicant. It is widely accepted that top students at Christ’s College are as good as top students anywhere in the world. The student is also interviewed by the UK university.
However, it is not just about results. Top universities are looking for students who have also taken part in sport, cultural activities and community service. Christ’s College offers the opportunity for such breadth and depth for our boys to be well-rounded applicants to top universities worldwide.
