Extraordinary year at Oxford

01 Feb 2021

The timing was uncanny.

Midway through Jonathan Stevenson’s (13190) year-long MSc studies in Global Health Science and Epidemiology at the University of Oxford, the Covid-19 pandemic occurred.

Jonathan was awarded a William Georgetti Scholarship to undertake the study, “an incredible opportunity to learn from global leaders in the field of health.”

“This ultimately proved to be an even more extraordinary experience as the Covid-19 pandemic unfolded in the middle of my year in Oxford,” he says.

In spite of the disruption, he graduated top student in the MSc cohort at Oxford. He was Dux at College in 2007, and top medical student and overall top undergraduate student at the University of Otago in 2014.

Now back in New Zealand to finish up his specialist surgical training, Jonathan says if any members of the alumni or current student community are interested in learning more about the opportunities on offer at Oxford, he’d be happy to talk to them.
