Top throw leaves College records in a spin
Armani Lemalu has spun into the College record books, breaking the school’s intermediate discus record with a 51.85m throw – a huge gain on the previous 45.28m – during the two-day Athletics Championships.
Among the other standout performances last week, AJ Madondo took the honours in six intermediate grade track and field events, including equalling the triple jump record of 13.20m (set in 2008). Jimmy Knight powered to four titles in the U14 section, along with PJ Palamo (intermediate) and Angus Thorne (senior).
In the race to be Overall House Champion, Harper ran away with the title, with Flower’s House in hot pursuit to nab second spot, followed by Jacobs.
While the contest was fierce, the atmosphere was subdued and in marked contrast to the typical annual noisy event when College’s 10 Houses – buoyed by friends and family – compete for glory. While the boys still displayed their usual enthusiasm and commitment, Covid-19 restrictions kept the wider community away.
