Multiple medals, a national title, and high-level performances across six sports – it has been an impressive Summer Tournament Week for Christ’s College.

Lining against the best secondary school competitors across New Zealand, College has stood out for its sportsmanship and determination in multiple disciplines.

Cricket
Navigating a busy schedule, the Christ’s College 1st XI has delivered a commanding five-wicket win over Whanganui Collegiate and an exciting eight-run victory against Shirley Boys’ High School in the Gillette Cup. Despite being beaten by Christchurch Boys’ High School by three wickets, the players have displayed a strong team spirit throughout the week.

Mountain biking
Christ’s College cyclists have been in flying form at the South Island Secondary Schools Mountain Bike Championships at Mount Hutt. In the cross country, Will Valentine has finished 3rd in the U14 race, while Wilbur Talbot has claimed 2nd in the U17. Meanwhile, the senior U20 relay team – featuring Wilbur, Joe Osborne, and Sam Hurst – has powered through the course to finish 2nd in a time of 30:59. Tennis
Battling bad weather, and tough competition, Christ’s College A has faced formidable competition at the National Secondary Schools Tennis Championships in Auckland. Playing against Auckland Grammar, St Andrew’s College (StAC), St Kentigern College, and Ashburton College, Christ’s College has fought hard to secure a draw with StAC and has narrowly missed out in close contests. Despite the weather disruptions, the boys’ sportsmanship and commitment have been exemplary.

Rowing
In a major highlight, Christ’s College crews have delivered medal-winning performances at the Maadi Regatta on Lake Ruataniwha. The novice U18 coxed eight and novice U18 coxed four crews have both claimed gold, demonstrating incredible teamwork and speed. The other novice U18 coxed four crew has won silver, while the U18 coxless pair has secured bronze. The U15 coxed octuple crew has also impressed, claiming bronze. Following the regatta, Henry Jones was selected for a national trial while George Hadden was awarded a South Island U18 trial.

Volleyball
At the National Secondary Schools Volleyball Championships in Palmerston North, Christ’s College has triumphed despite a mixed start to the tournament. College has won the Division 2 title, powering home to finish 17th overall in the 17–32 section.
