Stunning College Dining Hall endures

18 Jul 2022

College’s Dining Hall has been recognised with a 2022 Canterbury Architecture Award for Enduring Architecture.

Designed by Cecil Wood and built in 1925, the Dining Hall has been acknowledged as one of the early Canterbury architect’s “finest works” at the recent New Zealand Architecture Awards.

Designed in the Collegiate Gothic style and referencing the Great Hall at Christ Church in Oxford, “the building expresses the spirits and traditions of Christ’s College and reflects the high-minded ideals of its founders”.

The citation concludes: “This wonderfully atmospheric hall has been a central gathering place for students for close to 100 years and is still in use as a dining hall today.”
