Students get on board with Academic Week
All the numbers have stacked up for an engaging Academic Week at College, with an exciting Cantamath competition and a staff versus students Beat the Chasers battle.
Organised by the student-led Academic Committee, the week celebrates the culmination of a busy year for students and is an opportunity for boys from all year levels to gather together before their final weeks of classes and exams.
Head of Academic Seann Zhao believes it is important to cater for all boys, regardless of their age or areas of interest.
“It was great to see the representation from all the Houses, with boys happy to take on the teacher ‘chasers’ in a competitive atmosphere, and to see each House super enthusiastic while vying for Tuck Shop vouchers in the Cantamath event,” he says.
“Our trio of College ‘chasers’ – the Rev. Canon Cameron Pickering, Mathematics teacher Tony O’Connor, and Head of Chemistry Scott Franklin – have proved too good for the boys, with Year 9 student James Hitchcock nearly pulling off an individual upset win.”
The inter-house Cantamath competition was a close race between multiple Houses, with Corfe House and Condell’s House dominating in the early stage. In the end, Somes House launched an amazing comeback to secure the lead in the final five minutes.
Meanwhile, the Assembly Hall was buzzing as students competed in inter-house Mario Kart Wii, with Julius victorious after demonstrating the House’s gaming prowess by outmanoeuvring all rivals.
