Opening the gates for College generations to come
27 Aug 2025
Old Boys – alongside a few young ones – have been ‘reopening the gates’ at Christ’s College during a special visit to mark their gifts of time, treasure, and talent.
Members of The Sewell Society, who are outstanding supporters of the school, and the College tour guides, who volunteer their time to share the campus with visitors, have been given an early overview of an upcoming book, Opening the Gates, A History of Christ’s College 1997–2025. Written by History Head of Department Warren Lidstone, the book delves deep into school archives and remarkable student and staff stories.
The Old Boys were quick to discover their school photos and much-loved memorabilia in the College Museum, where they were welcomed by Board of Governors Chair Jeremy Johnson, Board Fellow Oliver Hickman, and Senior Deputy Headmaster Darrell Thatcher before Warren spoke about the new book.
For the Old Boys, it was also an opportunity to meet three Year 11 students and learn more about College life today and the impact of their generosity on a new generation during morning tea in the Dining Hall.
