New Maadi boat named in memory of Christ’s College Matron

Christ’s College has raced into a podium spot in the U18 coxed eight Maadi Cup on Lake Karāpiro in a sleek new boat named in memory of Flower’s House Matron Karen Adams.
The stunning black boat has made its debut at the 2025 Maadi Regatta, inspiring the College eight to claim the bronze medal in the final on Saturday.
In recognition of her devotion to College – and particularly the Flower’s House community – College sponsor PAK'nSAVE Wainoni has donated the boat bearing Karen’s name to the school.
For thousands of boys, Karen was at the heart of the College boarding community – as both a Flower’s House mother and matron. Appointed to the matron role in 2009, her untimely passing late last year had a significant impact on present-day boarders and the many generations who had passed through the House. Any boy could turn to Karen for comfort and care when often far from their own homes.
For more than 15 years – no matter the need – Karen was always there to help steer thousands of young men along the right path in order to reach their full potential.
