Lest we forget – a time to remember fallen Old Boys
Our College community gathered on the Quad to remember those 151 Old Boys who lost their lives in wars.
Led by the Rev'd Canon Cameron Pickering, the Commemoration of the Fallen was held under blue skies on a still day. As The Last Post echoed across the campus, the school acknowledged those remarkable Old Boys and staff.
Major Michael Lawry, 2nd Engineer Regiment RNZE – and College Old Boy – addressed those gathered for the special occasion, applauding the annual commemoration as a “good tradition, well maintained”.
He spoke about the ultimate sacrifice of so many and drew similarities between the virtues of the New Zealand and Australian Defence Forces and Christ’s College.
Major Lawry also highlighted the importance of understanding other people and their perspectives and encouraged students to take time to reflect and look at their lives.
The Ode of Remembrance was recited by Christ’s College Old Boys’ Association Vice President Tim Daley.
