Multi-talented Christ’s College athlete Jake Boyd has won gold in the shot put and the discus, recording personal bests in both events at the International Coast 2 Coast Track and Field event held at the Gold Coast high-performance track in Queensland.
Representing New Zealand, Jake, 15, threw 15.17m in the shot put and 56.58m in the discus. He also won gold in the 4 x 400m relay and silver in the javelin (40.70m). Jake has topped off his impressive Gold Coast run with a personal-best time in the 60m sprint to finish 5th.
The Year 11 Rolleston House athlete was a member of a 20-strong New Zealand development team, competing against U16 athletes from the United States, the Pacific Islands, and Australia.
“It was a challenging four days of high-level competition against top young athletes from the region and the United States,” he says. “I got a lot out of the experience and really had to focus and drive hard to lift my game, both on the track and in the field.
“I am now focusing on the secondary school nationals later this year and want to make the most of my time on the Gold Coast to do even better.”
