Food for thought at Christ’s College Founders Dinner

20 May 2025

Acknowledging the rich history and traditions of Christ’s College, Year 13 students have gathered with staff and special guests for the annual Founders Dinner in the Dining Hall.

A rite of passage for senior students, the Founders Dinner offers an opportunity for the boys to mark their progress while considering their own legacy.

Old Boys Angus Mossman and Jack Glass have shared their stories with the boys, highlighting the need to be ready to change direction and the importance of developing the best soft skills and character traits during your time at school.

Angus, a busy College band member, recalls his time at university as “a complete 180” from his initial degree in Music – along with throwing Law in there” – to discovering his true interest.

He discovered that “Music was really hard” and took his enjoyment away from playing.

“On the other hand, I found a genuine passion for Law,” Angus says. “I worked really hard, stayed up late, and got good grades. Now I’m an enrolled lawyer at Mortlock McCormack Law, working in commercial law, and still playing music in a band without it feeling like a task.”

He also spoke of the importance of College, pointing out that “the boys in this room will be your friends for life”.

“There’s a rich sense of camaraderie … and it doesn’t end after this year. Use it. Be proud of it.”

Meanwhile, Jack – a member of the Relationship Management team at Consilium, an investment service for independent financial advisers – has reflected on the valuable soft skills and character traits developed at College, including being comfortable speaking in public.

He credits College with nurturing those skills through many school activities, including the Jazz Band and being selected as Head of House in Jacobs House.
