Executive Principal welcomes 175th ‘guardians’ of Christ’s College
27 Jan 2025
Welcoming Year 9 students to Christ’s College, Executive Principal Joe Eccleton has highlighted the “enormous sense of purpose” of the school in “empowering boys to become young men who make a real difference”.
Addressing the boys and their parents in the Chapel, he has reminded the Year 9s that they “need to leave the school a better place than you found it”.
“You are the guardians – the kaitiaki – of Christ’s College,” he points out. “While we create a positive learning environment and extraordinary opportunities, it is up to you what you make of your time at College.”
He has urged the boys to embrace those many opportunities and “be the very best version of yourselves”.
“Today is an important day, with a collective sense of excitement. It is important that you become part of our legacy and our history as we prepare to celebrate our 175th anniversary. As a 2029 graduate, your generation will face change – but be confident in who you are. There will be tough times but you will learn from those – it is all part of the learning experience. It is up to you to make the very best of your time here.”
The Year 9 students have been given their special 175th badges, marking the importance of the occasion and the year. They are the first to receive these unique College badges.
Meanwhile, new students have also met their Housemasters and explored their Houses, along with joining their classmates for a walk around the school.
