Eco-Action Environment Award for Louis Sharr

26 Jun 2025

Year 11 environmentalist Louis Sharr has been recognised for his “extraordinary efforts” and incredible hours of service during the presentation of the Eco-Action Environment Award at Assembly.

It is awarded to boys who make “outstanding contributions to not just the Eco-Action Trust, but also the environment”. Christ’s College acts as a hub for Eco-Action, with tens of thousands of native plants grown at school satellite nurseries around Christchurch and thousands of native plants and trees planted in the city’s red zone. College teacher David Newton is the co-founder of Eco-Action.

Speaking at Assembly, College Head of Environment Tinura Gajamange points out that “Louis has amassed 83 hours of volunteering for the environment over the last two years”.

“He has regularly helped out at the public Sunday plantings in the red zone,” Tinura says. “This year, alone he has helped out on 28 occasions.”

For Louis it has been “incredibly rewarding to see the results of our work and know that it’s helping the red zone”.

“I’m proud to be part of it all and look forward to seeing where it goes in the future.”
