Christ’s College sails to Top of the South Regatta title

31 Mar 2025

For the third year in a row, Christ’s College has ruled the waves at the Top of the South Regatta hosted by the Queen Charlotte Yacht Club in Picton.

With co-captains Nico Blundell and Will Leech leading the way, College – also featuring Saxon Foggo, Jack Farquhar, Will Matheson, George Gorman, and Eddie Gorman – has been in flying form over the three days, winning 19 out of the 21 races to finish two wins ahead of the runner-up crew at the regional secondary schools sailing event.

Despite tough conditions on the first day leading to many capsizes, the College sailors have displayed their racing skills. Their tactical talents have particularly stood out as the boys have mastered the challenging conditions and highlighted their ability to rapidly adapt to changes on the course.

“The team has sailed brilliantly as we have delivered one of our best performances, with everyone working incredibly well – both on and off the water,” Nico and Will say. “The sailing programme has cointinued to grow and develop over the past three years. We get more and more out of every session, helping to drive our success.”

Next up, the College crew will head to the five-day national regatta off New Plymouth from 22–26 April to target a top spot in the gold fleet.
