Christ’s College rider wins silver at UCI Junior Track World Championships

Christ’s College cycling star Riley Crampton has won silver at the 2026 UCI Junior Track World Championships in Belgium.
It is the first time in more than a decade that New Zealand has claimed a medal in the premier endurance track race.
Delivering an outstanding ride over 40km, Riley, 17, claimed points on five of the 10 sprints, winning four and lapping the field to finish only three points behind the winner.
“All the hard work has paid off,” Riley says of his podium finish. “The years of sacrifice to do the sport I love and now to get a medal out of it. The key to that was all the hard work– the long days and nights, the 6.30am trainings in the cold in Christchurch – the commitment, I guess.”
In March, Riley claimed the overall U19 title at the New Zealand Track Cycling Championships in Invercargill following impressive rides in the premier age-group events. Earlier in the year, he was too strong for his rivals in the U19 Omnium at the Oceania Track Cycling Championships in Cambridge. He also won events at the Madison National Championships, and the Austral Wheel Race in Melbourne while representing New Zealand.
