Christ’s College on fast track at Canterbury championships

A provincial record and multiple titles have set the scene for an outstanding run of results for Christ’s College at the Canterbury Secondary Schools Athletics Championships at Ngā Puna Wai.

In total, 49 College athletes have lined up, with 42 competing in one or more championship events. College athletes have won 13 gold, 12 silver, and eight bronze medals. Several have recorded personal bests (PBs). Otto Church has won the U16 pole vault title, setting a Canterbury record (3.61m). Jake Boyd has claimed the top spot in the discus, javelin, and shot put while Max Hurring has proved too strong in the U15 100m (11.99), 80m hurdles (12.97), and triple jump (11.33m).

Meanwhile, Henry Ridd has landed a double, winning both the U14 1500m (4.48.71) and the 3000m (10.15.10). Luke Mostert has taken the U16 100m hurdles (15.92) honours while Sam Moore has won the U15 3000m (9.59.64), Lui Tupuola has impressed with a win in the U19 hammer (37.45m), and Alex Aitken has won the U19 triple jump (12.01m). Sam Scott, Max Hurring, Hugh Davis, and Jake Boyd have also combined to win the U15 4x100m title.
